Not having a '96 ... now I'm not sure WHAT you have under there. I have seen the sensor I showed you called the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) and the Output Speed Sensor (OSS). The speed sensor(s) is (are) located on the drivers side of the truck. The one I showed you is around the center of the transmission (exists on my '98 though ignored). You should also have a sensor towards the rear of the tranny on the tailshaft ... perhaps the one you are talking about. What do the connectors on that side of the tranny look like? Take your clues from there.
About halfway down the page, all the drive gears and sensors are listed. I didn't see anything like what you showed. PATC calls the sensor I pictured the OSS and says it's for '96+ trannys.
ok well where on the tranny is that? cause the one that i was told and showed was the vss was the one in my picture.
Your correct TMS. That ones at the very end of the tranny on the drivers side. It's the one thats immediately after the VSS that you showed a pic of first.

Thanks for chiming in ... maybe now we can put these questions to rest.
94-95 - 42/46/47RH
96-01 - 42/46/47RE
94-97 - three speed sensors
98-01 - two speed sensors (one not used)
