Default stereo

if im putting an aftermarket stereo system in the truck is there anything special i need to know when installing it due to the amplified speakers?

Assuming you are getting a wiring harness kit for it? From what I recall (did this a year ago) I had to attach the power antenna/remote wire from the new stereo to the 'amp' lead in the wiring harness and it worked fine.

do you know if the stereo needs to have a built-in amplifier?

If you are using the factory infinity system, no you don't need a head unit with the factory amplifier. Just hook up the remote wire correctly and it will utilize the factory amplifier. If I remember correctly, I didn't hook the wire up initially, and had next to nothing for sound, so you should know pretty quickly if you did it right or not.
