yea you cant press in new bearings you just have to but the whole new one and i just did my hub not too long ago and the axle threads are both regular threads on either side.

 

You say the steering wheel jerked. Make sure you check your u-joints when you are in there. Better yet, while you are in there, change your u-joints if you have not done them in the past. The jerking of the steering wheel is suspicious and may be your u-joints.
