Brown Tranny Fluid

Brown Tranny Fluid
OK, so my transmission has 139,xxx miles on it. The tranny fluid is brown and smells slightly burnt. Not good I know.
So here's the options I have come up with:
1) Leave alone because it runs and shifts fine
2) change fluid and change filter and repeat 1-2 weeks later as well as install a trans cooler, trans temp gauge, remove check valve in line and add the extra filter in the line http://www.pavementsucks.com/tech/cooler.php
3) Start saving money for a rebuild with heavy duty clutches
4) Start saving money for brand new transmission
5) if end up replacing trans we it does go, can I put a 47re in, instead of another 46re that it currently has?
So any opinions or thoughts on the options I listed above would be awesome.

assuming your transmission is working ok, and shifting ok, and not on the verge of crapping out... i'd do #2 and 3.
if its screwing up, i'd talk to a transmission expert like montec to determine if its likely to be fixed from an external solenoid/VB/sensor repair, or if its got to come out. if its gotta come out, then no point in wasting time and money on service. ATF and filter are pretty expensive, around $60+ each time.

I am working on replacing all the original parts and improving others. I'm gonna be using it to haul my chevy k20 to and from yankee lake in brookfield, ohio on a trailer. Based on all the great posts for towing I won't have a problem. The trailer will be close to max range about 7k. 2500 for trailer and 5200 for truck it will be fine, considering some of the crazy things others on this forum have towed.
Besides I will have all the tranny mods done by then including the mag-hytec deep trans pan.

Damn. Why can't dodge put a tranny like that in the stock rams. Looks like it would outlast the truck itself. I definately might just save the money and get that PATC Stage II Viper transmission instead. Because what are my chances of going with option #2 and a week later it dies based on stories from other forum members.
Either way I will remove the check valve this weekend. It probably contributed to the problem any way.
