Default Fuel problems???

98 1500 pretty much stock except for a lift and custom exhaust.

I drove home today, went to back into the garage and the truck stalled out while in reverse. Ok throw it in park and start it up I am thinking..........

Once I got it to fire I had to hold my foot on the gas to keep it from stalling out, in any case I called a buddy and asked if he had a fuel pressure tester. Of coarse he does, but he wants me to come get it......Nice friend right!?!?!?! Sears is closer I am off to get one after this.

Am I on the right train of thought that it is a fuel problem? It happened a couple days ago while I was backing out of the gas station as well. Did not think much of it but now I do not want to drive it till I get it fixed.

Any other suggestions I need to look into?

Please and thank you.

Yea i agree with bill........if fuel pressuer was low it would prolly run fine until higher rpms. My fuel pump is bad right now its a bit low on pressure, it runs great until i hit 3500 rpms then starts missing due to it being starved for fuel at higher demands.

Again, I agree with bill I would clean your IAC and while your at it check with a flash light and see if there is oil in your intake, your plenum gasket could be bad also. This prolly wouldn't cause it but if you have to clean your IAC and throttle body its a good time to check your plenum gasket.

I will check the IAC, going to check out the other issue I found while checking the spark plug wire tomorrow while around a garden hose. Seems the person (an that is VERY polite) who had the truck before me did not know how to put on a spark plug wire correctly. I found the inside connector for the coil wire buried in the boot and was not even connected to the coil.

Thanks a lot guys.

^^ Be a good Noob and get us some beer.

Seriously, have you checked out the DIY sticky at the top of the Forum? Also, download a copy of the Field Service Manual (FSM). That will help immensely.

and it is advised to pull the TB off the intake and clean it real well... although the IAC (back of the TB) is easy to pull out & clean, IIRC there is a small air passage that will get clogged up as well and should be cleaned.

I just replaced the iac instead of cleaning it for about 60 bucks. Fixed all my problems.
