Default Shift Kit?

I have a 2001 Ram 1500 4x4 and i want to put a shift kit in the transmission to help aid in extending it's life and providing firm shifts. I ordered a kit for my dad's 1996 ram but have not had it installed yet. I believe his is a transgo shift kit from b&m. Is this a good kit to go with? Also can anyone tell me what all the steps are to remove the valve body from the transmission. I tried once, and after all the bolts were removed it was still hung up on the linkage for the transmission and i wasn't quite sure where to go from there.

i have a transgo, i didnt do any research when i bought it because the transmission was already out for rebuild and i needed a kit asap.

i didnt install it but as for drivability, its nice. 1-2 shift is much firmer, it is perfect for daily driving, my tires most likely dampen most of the harshness though.

Do you know if your transgo kit was installed using the firmest shift setting (drilling 2 holes) or the "not so firm setting" (drilling one hole)?

I've got a Fairbanks TransAction kit set to street strip and have enjoyed it so far.

no.... i didnt even know that was an option. i was working at the dealership when my tranny went out, so they rebuilt it. i asked them to throw a kit in while they were digging around (save me the time and hassle), so like i said, i didnt even really get a chance to shop around. shoot, i wish i had more time to resaerch it.

depends on what kit helms got,

The TFOD-HD2 kit says drill 2 holes, the Jr. kit gives you the option of one or 2 holes.

i know my kit has two main levels....there is one for towing which is probably the one that your shop put in your 02 ram...and it also has one for strip/strip. Just from what i have heard it sounds like the towing setting is the way to go. It is firm, but won't abuse your transmission. I was just wondering what kinda luck people have had though
