Post Need help ASAP!!!!!

I drove to and from work today, fine. I went to go to the gas station and my tranny wont shift. It dosent make any noises just wont shift. I check and have plenty of tranny fluid in it.

I believe its got a shift kit in it for towing from the previous owner.

Its acted up before, it wouldnt shift right after i started it but would start to shift after a couple seconds.

Also i have a light on the dash thats GEN, what does that mean.

gen is your generator.. i know its stupid.. its basically for your alternator. mine acts up when ever i get the belt wet (washing or whatever).. it can trip because of low voltage. bad belt. squeelin belt. bad alternator etc etc.

my truck did the same thing with the tranny.. sorry to say it bud. but your tranny is gonna start popping and slamming real hard.. then you'll hear a metal on metal squeaking noise (obnoxiously loud) hate to say this.. but the tranny is dieing. try the sonnex sure cure kit.. alot of guys on here rant about it.. not sure where to get it.. but private message silver dodge.. he knows all about it. or you might luck out and be able to rebuild yours. also theres a 2 lines going into the radiator. these are cooling lines for the tranny fluid. when you rebuild or replace your tranny take the one closest to the passenger fender out. replace it with tranny hose. and 3 hose clamps. basically the hose from factory has a check valve in it.. this check valve is known to go and if basically you get any dirt grease etc in this check valve its clogged and basically will cause your tranny to literally burn up without warning. once this happens as you found out.. your screwed. like i said eliminate the check valve with tranny hose from auto zone about 8 bucks a foot.. 3 worm clamps. and either rebuild or replace your tranny and your in good shape.. i found out about this the hard way also. sorry for the long reply hope it helps.

Well it had a good run then. Its got a little over 160K. Aside from the shift kit i believe its the original tranny.

yeah def a good run. like i said.. get that f-ing check valve out. u never know when they r gonna go.. i know of a few trucks right after replacement trannies less then 200 miles the things fried again, most tranny shops dont know about this either. luckily mine did. like i said... get it out.. i cant stress that enough. but yeah.. my truck has 168k miles on it.. tranny only has 2k or less.. still runs like a champ, thanks to gettin out that check valve.. long story short.. bought it with new tranny.. tranny fried just like u described. i had to jiggle the stick from drive to nuetral n what not to get it to engage then it squeeled.. took it back.. the tranny was fried.. rebuilt it again *this was within 200 miles of me getting it, literally next day*.. then the guy realized they didnt get rid of the check valve.. eliminated it and its fine ever since.

i didnt.. i called the truck lot i bought it had i said. dude u told me new tranny.. i got major issues.. described it.. told him i had 3 mechanics tell me it was shot. he goes ok bring it up.. he rebuilt it and basically said.. u aint gettin it back til i know its 100% correct.. gave me the option for the check valve delete or a new check valve.. told him what i wanted.. waited a week.. and got the truck.. but id have to say maybe 1200 bucks or so if you go with a junkyard tranny and have your tranny guy do a once over and do the delete like i showed you.. maybe a little more.. idk bud sorry

yeah man.. id say somethings binding up in there. have a tranny guy drive it.. just make sure u dont go to aamco transmissions. they f*ckin suck n just rape you for money. go to a trusted shop. ask ur friends what they reccomend. or go to ur trusty mechanic have him drive it.. see what he says to..

could the check valve be blocking the fluid and making it not work right?
