Nope, V8s were the same.

The difference is this...

1994-1997/1998 (approximately), Chrysler used a dual inlet dual outlet catalytic converter. Don't quote me on this, but I believe the size was dual 2" inlets and 2.5" outlet. Anyway, there was no y-pipe, the converter was where the pipes combined. The "pre-cat" oxygen sensor actually went into the cat. Similar to the picture below.

Around 1998/1999, they started switching to a y-pipe after the manifolds into a 3" single inlet/3" single outlet converter, like the one below:

Where the pre-cat oxygen sensor goes into the pipe right before the converter.

The converter for the 5.2L is the same for the 5.9L, it just mainly depends on what model year you have.

Just stumbled across this researching a bit since I am probably going to order a cat. Guessing all I need is the universal 3" High Flow from Magnaglow with what I have?

I'm a Dakota owner but my high flow cats made a big difference. When I would rev my engine to WOT and down, it would sound like the exhaust wasn't freeflowing. I bought two 3" S2607 Cats and had them welded in.

These are the ones I chose.

If I can get away with a 3" in and out, I can get a Magnaflow for under $100, just need to weld it in. Crawled under the truck and looks like that's the case, just have to cut out the old and get some pipe to make up the size difference. Thinking I can't get anymore out of upgrades until I pay more attention to the cat. (Credit AIM for pointing it out)
