ball joints make a pop sound most of the time, and will make that noise when turning,, so like it was said before it could be a u-joint,,, or maybe wheel bearing because you do mud...
Does it only happen when turning, or does it only happen when accelerating?
If it sounds like a bunch of LEGOs (or any other small objects) being rolled around in a can constantly, its probably engine pinging, especially if its mostly just under throttle.
What else will make a pop/thud/clunk noise are shock absorbers. I torqued my lower to factory spec and the noise was still present. I torqued it down to 150 and it went right away. This seems to be an issue on 4x4's as well as 4x2's as Chrysler uses a funky pinch type mount on the lower arm.
If you have aftermarket wheels with push thru caps, sometimes the cap will get old and will get loose enough to make a constant and speed variable click. I had this happen last year and was looking everywhere for the noise thinking I had a mechanical problem.
