Default transmission troubles

hi,
i own a 98 ss/t ram that is having some transmission troubles. this truck is not driven year round and is only on the road for roughly 7 months a year. it started acting up about 2 weeks ago when the trans would not shift into 1st gear. i solved that by resetting the computer. it went a week and a half with no problems and now it wont shift out of 1st until i take my foot completely off the gas, and to top it all off, now it will not start in park, i have to put it in neutral to get my truck to start(i just replaced the neutral safety switch today and it did absolutely nothing, it still only starts in neutral) what is up with my trans?

-not transmission related, but i also have a problem with my truck, when i first start it up in the morning it will idle perfect, but after like 5 minutes it starts to run rough(kinda like it has a big cam in it) then the throttle body hisses and it gets down to like 300 rpm and tries to stall out. if i am driving when this happens and i floor it the engine pops and backfires. could it be running extermely lean? the only reason i think its running lean is because my 1 year old ceramic coated edelbrock headers are starting to flake the ceramic coating.

I agree. Start with scanning the brain for sure. Even though its computerized, if comes back clean, you might check the shift linkage. Reason being is if its not starting in park, it might not be fully shifting into park and also with the 1st gear thing.

As far as your idle/running prob. My 2500 with the 5.9 did that to me a week ago. It was idling just fine, then slowly got lower and lower to about 300/400.....I turned it off, fired it back up and it hasent happened since. So I'm giving it time. No lights came on, so.....hopefully the computer just had a brain fart for a couple secs.

Start electrical and end mechanical.

Cool bad brain

also after thinking the header thing besides being lean it could be timing which is also control by the comp. too.
if it is not in time high or low time it will cause heat in eng.
