Default 2008 ram wheels work on a 96?

Is the bolt pattern the same for a 2008 2wd ram as a 96 ram 2wd? If not isnt there a wheel adapter kit? I found some 2008 ram 20" wheels and tires that would look nice on the 96

THe bolt pattern is the same, but the lug size and offset is not. They are both 5 lug by 5.5" bolt circle. However, the older rims I believe are 25mm offset and the newer rims are 30mm offset. The old lugs are 1/2" and the newer lugs are 9/16".

So...

Due to the offset, your wheels will sit inwards 5mm on each side.

And, you will have to use your 1/2" lug nuts on rims designed to work with 9/16" lug nuts. The mating surface area is likely going to be different (probably less).

I have talked to some people that have done it and it looks like some here already have, but I would be cautious that you really take a close look at the surface where the lug nut engages the rim. I'd even go so far as to blue an old rim and a new rim at the lug nut mating surface and install them both with the 1/2" lug nuts and see what kind of mating surface you get by comparing the wear band you'll create. I am guessing the mating surface on the newer rims with the 1/2" lug will be much narrower than on the original rims. But I dont know for sure.

If something goes wrong it could get ugly really fast at 80MPH on the highway.

What year was the major change ?

I have a 2000 ram. Could I put rims from a 2002 for example on mine, or is the stud diameter different as well?
