FIXED......had to replace the column turning signal/wiper switch unit.....the lights wire was fired. Work fine now.

Can or will it happen again? How did that happen to begin with? Bad switch?

Maybe bad switch, maybe your previous owner did some extra curricular wiring. You did say you had to spend some money on new wiring? Not everyone that messes with their vehicles knows what they are doing, or is meticulous enough to be sure to leave everything just right when the button it up.
