Default Double din Second gen Ram

Tried searches, seen it talked about on a couple threads, even some pics of someone trying it. Can't seem to find pictures of a finished product though. Has anyone done it and how did it turn out?

I know our decks are 1.5 din, so thinking double din can't be that much more work. Reached the point of purchasing the deck for my stereo project, but starting to kick around a double din for the nav/dvd features, but most important, screen size. 99% of my music is ipod, currently have an 'ipod' Alpine deck. Larger screen just makes ipod use easier.

Had the dash apart and know fitting one is no issue behind the trim, but wondering how much work goes into trim modification. Not worried about cutting it apart, but wonder if my limited skill set would stop it from looking good when I'm done.

Any input?

Thank you Laramie. For some reason couldn't find anything via google earlier. Now that I've seen a couple installed, scrapping the double din idea. Just doesn't fit the factory lines of the dash very well, sticks out something awful.

Just decided to kill the thoughts of double din. I want a clean factory type look, which granted is impossible with an aftermarket head unit...but double din looks gaudy. I'll plan on sticking with an Alpine standard din.

I can take some pics of my 1 DIN pioneer deck with the dash kit tomorrow if you think that might help.

Nah, don't worry about it. I currently have an Alpine single din, ida-x001, with the dash kit. Just thought it would be cool to have the larger screen to make it easier to look through ipod files. Thought nav/dvd would be nice at times. Plus, just thought it would be an interesting project.

Plan on switching decks, but now will probably just bump up to the ida-x100 instead.

Yea I hear ya on that. As far as nav goes, I just have a nuvi that attaches to the dash, so I hid the wiring on it to make it look clean. I dont do the ipod thing so I dont worry about it.
What is the difference between the two models ?

Nothing major, basically the same deck, but the x001 is the first model of it, x100 is the next gen. Seems like they made it a bit more user friendly and a couple more sound settings. For me, they took some of the silver/chrome out of it and made it more black. I want the blacker one for my Ram, should blend in a bit more. Not worried about replacing it because it was a $400 deck new, but picked it up on clearence last year for 90, so I can still sell it for more then that. Current x100 is marked down to 250 now, waiting for it to drop another 50 or so and I'll pick it up.

I have a Garmin too, just thought an all in one unit would be nice if it would have looked decent.
