Default turning on brights causes headlights to go out

I was driving along at night in the '00 2500 I just bought. I pulled the column lever toward me to engage the brights and my headlights went completely out. Turning them on and off using the **** on the dash did not good, so I drove home with no lights. Once I got there I started playing with the colum lever and the lights came back on, but the brights never come on. Its as though the switch on the column lever has a short in it or something. Has anyone had this problem?

Default RE: turning on brights causes headlights to go out

Well my ford ranger had the same problem and it was a worn switch on the steering col.

This made alot of sence cause at the time i was living in the country and used the switch every night on the way home from work..

good luck
