Default Band Adjust or Not?

I bought a used 98 5.2l Ram recently and am gearing up to change the transmission fluid and need to know if I should adjust the bands. The truck shifts very smoothly now...and just read a thread about a guy who adjusted his bands wrong and evently shredded his transmission. I don't want to do that. SHOULD I ADJUST THE BANDS OR JUST LEAVE WELL ENOUGH ALONE?

Leave them alone. It's easy to do and easy to screw up. If the transmision shift fine just leave it's not worth the headache. Eventually you should have a shop do the band adjustment for you. I'm going to take mine to Dodge and have them do it just to make sure it's right.

+1 Don't don't it. If it shifts smooth, then what's adjusting the bands gonna do for you. How could it possibly improve your tranny. When I need it done, I'm going to my tranny guy.

The bands are easy to adjust and I did mine just fine (after my tranny rebuild that is). However, I also think that if it is shifting ok then to just leave it alone. If you change your fluid and it starts to act up a little then I would adjust it.
