if your truck shifts ok and nothing feels or sounds like its slipping - then i'd leave the bands alone. if its slipping some, i'd adjust them.
if you plan to keep the truck, put a $5-10 drain plug kit in. it'll make it a lot easier next time.
get as big a drain pan as you can find. be aware that the fluid level is above the top of the pan, so as you loosen the pan bolts, the flood begins. slide the drain pan under it and let the fluid above the pan drain out. remove all bolts except the 4 corners, and then loosen them slightly. when the flood subsides, move the pan and slide a floor jack under the pan and jack it up snug, and put the drain pan beside the jack. remove the last 4 bolts. now you need about 6 hands. slowly lower the jack while balancing the pan. then tip the trans pan over into the drain pan. slide the drain pan back under the trans, and remove the filter. more fluid will pour out. leave the drain pan under there, as it will drip for hours.
be patient, try not to drown.

everything seems Great I have put about 40 000 kms on this fluid what are these bands u are talking about??? and about the filter is there anything I have to atch out for or is there any kind sof grease I have to put on to get the filter in place ??? I had a buick regal 3.8 superchaged and the filter would not go on without some grease a trick I found out after lol ... anyways thanks for the tips dhvaughan
pretend that the only bands you've ever heard of are Lynyrd Skynyrd and Outlaws.
if i remember right the filter has 3 bolts that hold it the bottom of the valve body, maybe #25 torx, maybe something else. very easy. nothing special.
there is a magnet in the bottom of the pan, its supposed to be there, don't lose it. clean the pan good to remove any sludge
clean both gasket surfaces well. don't overtighten the pan bolts.
don't use any fluid other than ATF+4, mine takes about 6 or 7 qts, and you can only accurately check fluid level with engine running and in NEUTRAL NOT PARK !!

don't forget to torque the pan bolts and after a good 15 minute trip or so i doesn't hurt to hop back under there and check the torque while its hot. also the plastic/rubber gasket you can get from the dealer is nice because when you change it there is nothing to scrape off. and you don't need a jack to get the pan down if you have a steady hand, i just palm the pan and push up on it while taking the last couple bolts out and lower it just enough to grab the edge with my other hand to steady it while i tip it toward the drain pan. and you can get the plug kit from summit racing for 6 bucks. if you go with a new (deep) pan they have one that already has a drain plug in it. also no matter how much you wipe it they do drip for quite a while so don't put your face directly under it without glasses on unless you like getting tranny fluid in your eyes.
