Best time to change oil & filter?
I know when to change the oil in terms of miles, but I'm talking about when its warm after running for a few miles or should I let it set overnight so it all drains down? In the past, I've always warmed it up thinking it would drain easier.
+1 I actually think you get more old oil out that way as well. It also runs out a bunch faster.
And it's nice and warm when it runs down your arm and makes you pee yourself...wait, I might have shared too much

Once again it seems I do things opposite.
I change my oil after letting it sit overnight. Less oil running down my arm and less peeing. I've never seen any garbage come out - maybe it is building up in the pan.

I'm actually experimenting with some Auto RX right now.
When I swapped heads, I noticed some coking in the lifter valley in the ledges that never drain out and some "oil laquering" on the insides of the valve covers. I figure I'll give this stuff a go as it was highly recommended on bobistheoilguy.com forums and stick to the online directions like glue.
I'm 300 miles into the cleaning phase now, we shall see. Gonna take me darn near 6 months with my driving habits to finish a double flush.

I need to run it in my truck-- I had a fair amount of sludge buildup in the lifter valley as well. The former owner must not have been all that religious about oil changes. I'm using Mobil 1 now so it should all be good.
Good stuff, anyway.
I also have been using Mobil1 for quite few years, and still use the Rislone. Not only is it good stuff, but saves on a 6 dollar qt. of oil. The Rislone keeps it clean if it's clean to start with, and slowly cleans if it's not. It doesn't shock the motor so to speak and loosen all kinds of sludge at once, which in itself causes other probs.
