well at least it was banging around and must have been a little easier to take apart verses a rusted up sticky one that you need to heat the he!! out of to get it to move. just trying to find a possitive side of it

when i did my u joints i broke a 9" c clamp and a vice, then went to the arbor press and two handed the lever to pop it out, all that was in the cap was dust and little pieces of needle bearings.

Next time you do it, use PB or Cyclo penetrating oil first. Tighten the clamp or vise a little at a time while tapping the ears. Tighten some more, tap some more , tighten some more ,tap some more, and so on.

my caps were excessively tight because the yoke ears seemed a tad small. i beat the old ones out with BFH, but couldn't get the new ones to start. i used my dremel tool with a sanding drum to open up the yoke just a tid-bit.

You are lucky that you have not cracked the ears, or have you! Hmm

You're not gonna break the yoke unless you bang it on the outer edge. I hit it squarely between the U joint cap and the drive shaft proper. Put a couple of hammer marks on one side until the cap let go, nothing on the other.

I use a old 5/8's sparkplug socket, to get mine out.To me it's easier than a vise or c clamp,But i do use a clamp installing the new ones
