Default Question about Infinity sound system

I just got my truck a few weeks ago and am replacing the factory CD/cassette unit with a Sony MEX BT3700U. It has built-in Bluetooth and is HD/Sat ready and supports the factory steering wheel controls. My question is that in looking over the factory manual it states that the Infinity speakers have their own amplifiers for the front speakers. I can see them in the schematics, but there's no mention of where these amps are located in the truck. Are they on the speakers themselves? The previous owner changed out the stock speakers, so if they were part of those they are gone. If not, then I guess I have to find them and eliminate them as I can't have my high-power outputs from the new head unit driving these amps. Does anybody know anything about these Infinity systems? Thanks!

I have a 2002 Durango, The power amplifier unit is mounted to the right
cowl side inner panel under the passenger side end of
the instrument panel. Hope this will help.

I believe they are attached to the speakers themselves, not an actual amp mounted elsewhere. If your factory fronts are gone, my guess is you are no longer amp'd?

On the premium sound system from the factory, the amplifiers were mounted on the speakers them selves.

Obviously, if they are not there when you pull the speakers out, then someone other than you has been dinking with them.

Cool, thanks for the replies, guys. Now, does anyone know an easy way to remove the door panels?

Door panel removal tool? lol

It's not bad, take the 2 screws out of the armrest, 1 screw out of the location on the 'backside' of the side mirror, and use a panel removal tool to pop out the clips. Even with the tool, ended up busting some of my tabs with my recent work, but some glue and a 5 dollar bag of replacement clips from auto zone fixed that issue.

You are gonna want that little tool /\.
Like Hutch said, remove two screws in the door handle, and one above the mirror adjust. It is nice to have a pen light around when taking the panel off. Usually you can bend the panel back a little bit to see the first couple of clips, but be careful this is Dodge plastic we are talking about. Once you get all the clips out, DO NOT for get to unhook the connector that powers your mirror.

The power window panel DOES NOT NEED TO BE DISCONNECTED! You can simply pull it up and out of the door panel, and turn it around and slid it back through the hole.

Hope that helps.

The door panels are incredibly easy to remove. Pull all three screws (2 in the cup, 1 by the pilar) use a small screwdriver to pop the c-clip off the crank (if you have one), when lift. Should come right off.

You'll have some stubborn little plastic push pins sticking out of the door, but those can be removed with a pair of needle nose and reused.
