Default type of oil

i have an oil change and tranny fluid change coming up this weekend. just curious what everyone uses for synthetics. i've been using normal pennzoil 10w-30 and want to change to synthetic...just curious if i should use some cleaning agents and run a cycle of it BEFORE i change my oil, or what. it is a '95 and when i took my valve covers off, it looked pretty bad, pretty sure it's never had a cleaning before. just curious what everyone uses/prefers.

I run Royal Purple in all my vehicles except the Yamaha R1. It has Mobil 1 in it now but I have a case of Royal Purple waiting for it. They dirt bike I run Silkolene in it but at $13-14 a quart and being a motorcycle oil you don't want it for your truck.

If you insist on switching to synthetic oil, I would definitely do an engine flush first with a product like Amsoils Flush. I personally wouldn't switch to synthetic oil given that the truck is already 14 years old. Just not a good idea, imo.

I run Royal Purple in the truck now, but am switching back to Mobil 1. I can't tell the difference between the two.

Other than the initial color, that is.

i don't see why it would make a difference whether i switch to synthetic now or not. but i will do the amsoil flush i guess...or some type of engine flush.

if i decide to go with royal purple(which i planned on doing anyway) would the engine break-in oil be considered a flusher. or should i just go ahead and get an engine flush as well

Stick with fossil oil. This late in the game switching over to a synthetic wont benefit you in really any way. It will just cost you more.

I use M1 0w-40 on all my vehicles. ACEA A3 and BMW LL-01 approved. Assures me that its a group IV (PAO). UOA's at bobistheoilguy look excellent with extended change intervals. There are other great oils aswell.
