i know the oil deal is a big problem as well i'm just saying its best to spend 6 bucks on a new terminal now than 100+ on a new alternator and 60+ on a battery later. he's gonna be at the parts store anyway getting oil.
yep all you need to replace it is a sturdy pair of wire cutters and a 7/16th and 1/2" wrench and a pocket knife/box cutter. on wires that thick the easiest way to strip them is to roll a sharp blade around the insulation to cut it but don't put hardly any force into it so you'll finish with the same # of digits you started with.
Buy a whole new cable. Replacing just the terminal on the battery end doesn't usually fair so well. It will get corroded in no time and you'll have another problem.
