Some questions
Hello all, I had a few questions about my truck.
First off is the 4x4 light is always on even in two wheel drive. And it a pain to switch because its been sitting a while before I bought it and is stiff. Any ideas?
Also both my abs and my brake light are on but my brakes feel fine to me and still stop me when I need them. Anything?
Thanks,
John

all i can help you with is the 4x4 light is ONLY on when its in 4x4. when you switch it back to 2-wheel drive the light should go out somtimes mine don't and i switch to reverse and back up a few feet and spin a little just out of habbit cause my 85 chevy was like that with auto hubs. your brake light is just the e-brake try pulling on the release and pulling up and the pedal with your other hand could be a bad switch.
The brake/ABS light can be much more than just the E-brake being on. Actually, that wont even turn the ABS light on, just the brake.
I had this same problem (along with a zillion other people... do a search, you will have hrs worth of reading to do) and finally figured out what it was... on my truck anyway. I traced the wires from the sensor on the rear axle and it turned out one had a small cut in it from a zip tie which had worn through the tape and wire loom. It could also be the sensor itself going bad as well as a few other things. Good luck with that!
As far as your 4wd light goes, is the syetem disengaging?

Thanks for the help. I will do a search on the problem. But I have done the reverse thing. I go in reverse and in drive but the light is always on. I know its in 2wd because I can power brake it. But when I pull it into 4wd it is in 4wd. Could it be the sensor going bad? Also I will try the ebrake fooling with.
I will do the wires today when I get home for my abs light. Is the sensor only on one wheel? Or is there one on all 4?
Once again thanks and I will be sure to write when I figure out the problem. All other info is greatly appreciated also.

For the 4wd light, you probably have a vacuum leak somewhere that is causing the CAD to not fully disengage. Since the 4wd CAD is vacuum actuated it can disengage the axle, but if it doesn't fully disengage, the light will remain on even though you are no longer in 4x4. Or, could be that the actuator switch is actually going/gone bad.
A good confirmation that you have a vacuum leak is to turn your blower vents on. Then get on the gas full throttle. If iot switches the air from the forward vents up to the defrost vents under full throttle, you have a vacuum leak.

Search on this section for vacuum leak. People have posted tons of places to look where they found their leaks. They are not easy to track down.

Well I was outside for the time being it was not raining. From all I have read today I checked my pcm for the death flash just to be cautious and Im glad to say it does not have it. Also I did the crazy vent trick and no luck there heater still blows out of the vent its set to. Also I played with the ebrake a little bit an that didnt do anything. So as of now I will wait till tomorrow to check the vaccum leak and the sped sensor on the rear differential. Yes I have been doing some reading today on the forum haha.
