Default Has anyone ever upgraded their rear brakes to disc?

And if you have would you please sell me your old drum backing plates??

I have checked every yard in a 100 mile radius, I cannot put my hands on 11x 2.5" backing plates. I had no trouble finding 9.5 rear ends, they were so common. I got a new carrier for $10. Even though I may still go the LSD route.

Dodge wants $280 for one backing plate and no yard wants to go through the hassle of tearing apart a rear end to get me one, and the u-pull-it yards are dry.

I either have to suck it up and pay $280, change my rear drums to whatever chrysler drums I can find(mainly gen 1 rams) or buy a whole rear end.

I cannot believe how hard it is to come across a backing plate, but I guess unless your tire falls off on the Interstate, its kinda hard for them to go bad.

My old backing plate, which hit the I-10 at 70mph, on the ride home from picking up from the tow yard. The tow truck driver had to drag my truck to get it and I really believe that caused all my problems.

I thought about it, but don't wanna dish out the $800 or so for the kit to convert it. Did you try online places like Rock Auto? I don't know, man...

No one, I mean no one has these parts.

RockAuto is like my main source for parts.

Best price I have found is at MoparPartz.com which is a dealer run site, they want the $280 for the one plate. I could buy a whole engine and a rear end from a yard for that price. The dealer closest to my house told me closer to $400.

It like no one ever buys these parts.

I can't tell if any other vehicle ever used similar sized brakes, because the 9.5 was on many different vehicles since '67.

This is just a shot in the dark, but would the plate off of a ram van work? If so, there are TONS of them at a few bone yards by my house. Let me know. How soon do you need it? I might be able to come across one off of a ram truck.

its a lot of work to take that part off.
You have to remove the drums, take the rear end cover off, remove the pinion bolt(5/16th I think) remove the pinion. Then push the shafts in, remove the c-clamps then remove the shafts. Then Remove the driver side brake assembly then remove the four bolts holding the backing plate on.

A lot of steps for a simple metal part. Some van brakes will work but the drum inner surface should be 11" x 2(.25 or .5). I have been trying to find out which other vehicles will work for me. Its funny how hard this part is to come by.

Of course I would have no problem paying someone for all that work.
