Default HELP! Transmission acting up! Whats going on?!?!

I'm going to lose my mind with this truck! haha i was driving along yesterday and came to a stop at a red light. When the light turned green, i hit the accelerator and the truck kind of nudged forward but did not go! I shifted the truck down to first and it went, so then i put it back into drive the minute i started moving, boom, the engine reved up and i stopped moving, i put it back down into first and it worked again. Then after i hit 20mph, i shifted up into second and it did it, then third and O/D! no problem. While driving, if i shift down, it will do that too without any trouble, but being stopped and then trying to go in any gear other than first, it won't move!!! i'm so lost and it doesn't make any sense to me!

HELP!
haha

thanks in advance.

Hows the level of your Tranny fluid?
Hopefully for you its very low and you can put some more in and be on your way.
Though ever more likely, your transmission is about to totally die and needs a rebuild.

Very very few people here with a stock un-rebuilt tranny. Mine has been slipping between 1-2 and staying in 2 for too long for years, but I never had problems like yours or had my tranny totally fail. Even though I am working on the rebuild now.

Probably need to bring it in to a shop to get it checked.

well thats not good then cuz my fluid level is perfect. I changed the filter and fluid about a month and a half ago!!!

some people that i spoke with said it sounds like a sensor since it works fine at higher speeds...any ideas?

Check your rear axle. It could very well be your tranny, but almost sounds like you might have sheared some teeth off. It may be far right field, but its worth a shot.

You didnt happen to do a band adjustment while you were under there did you?

hey man just had mine rebuilt yesterday and the way yours is acting is EXACTLY to a T of how mine was acting. I watched my dad tear my tranny apart (dad being a mechanic for dodge) anyway and my overdrive unit was shot the clutches were fried, the kickdown band was toast along with the hub that the clutches sit in and reverse band was a little worn. you will prolly need a rebuild. i would suggest looking at the one sensor and the silinoid in the pan but if its slipping it means your band is prolly shot and overdrive clutches are bad. mine did exactly what yours is doing. do you know any transmission guys anywhere that could get your parts at their cost and not charge you an arm and a leg????

if you pull the pan again you can look at the end of the governor selenoid and see if its caked up with clutch dust, if it is then your governor pressure could be low and cause a bunch of problems. you should call some tranny shops and see if any do a free diagnostic where they test drive it with the scanner hooked up. it can read the governor pressure and tell you if its that for sure. a good tranny shop won't charge for that and the tech will show you the scanners readings. then again it could be the fluid pump in the tranny.

Well i don't think its the rear end cuz its brand new (replaced about three months ago)

I did not do a band adjustment when i was under there last time! i'll try taking it to a transmission shop and see what they tell me!

Do you all have any pictures of the solenoid and sensor cuz i can't find it under there!
Thanks a bunch!

hey man all you have to do is pull the pan under the tranny losin up all but about 3 bolts and drain the pan slowly then get another hand if you can and have them help you drop it in a drain pan. the sensor is inside that pan and so is the silinoid. it takes a torques bit or a star bit either way you take it to get the silinoid out and theres just a few bolts. when you take it to a shop and they hook up the computer to your truck and drive around it will tell you anything that is wrong with your truck......ONLY thing is, is that even if you change that silinoid or sensor or both it may not fix the problem. when you pull the pan you can feel the bands they should be really stiff.

the seleniod gets caked up with clutch dust and lowers the overall pressure and causes all kinds of little shifting quirks. and if it is packed, its more than likely the torque convertor falling apart. the scan tool that a tranny shop uses checks the pressure signal sent from the governor sensor and it has a desired pressure and an actual pressure reading and if the actual pressure is about half of the desired pressure then its probably the governor selenoid. the selenoid is a common failure point on these transmissions, along with broken accumulator springs, and the OE (50000 mile average) torque convertors.

Check your fluid anyway. Last time I changed mine I put the recommended amount of fluid back in and it was still very low. You did put the right fluid in there, right?
