Post Transmission Whine???

I have a 2001 Dodge Durango SLT 5.9L V8, 133,500 miles. About two weeks ago I started hearing a whining/clicking sound. It started fairly softly, but has gotten louder. It only happens when the vehicle is moving, increases and decreases in pitch based on the pressure on the gas pedal, not on the speed of the vehicle. It kind of sounds like cards in the spoke of a bicycle wheel. I'm not a DIY mechanic, but want some idea what it might be and how much i'd have to spend to fix it. Any ideas?

Could be any number of things.... U-joint, (you have a bunch) T-case, gears in either differential, etc. Can you localize where the noise is actually coming from?

If it is indeed the trans...... that's prolly gonna be expensive.

Best I can tell, seems to be coming from rear end. I have not had any typically transmission issues, I.e. Slipping, jerking, hard shifting, etc.

I had a whine coming from the rear end of my truck as well. Dropped the wife and the mother in law off at the train station and it went away...

Is it leaking at the pinion seal by any chance?

Looks like it's leaking at the transfer case, not leaking at the rear end. After looking at other forums and post, seems like it might be transfer case gears. Makes no difference in 4-Hi or 2-WD, whines all the time.

Just another long shot, but check and make sure the TV cable is not touching against transmission housing. I had an 01 with very low miles, 57,000, that had a whine from the transmission and the tv cable was one thing to check.
The whine on my started after I totaled the front end and a salvage dealership bought it for a rebuild project. Sorry, I didn't buy it back so I can't tell you what was whining.

Mine made a sound like that but it was do to air in the heater core.
Mine is doing the same thing only makes noise when accelerating also if I jiggle my gear shifter a little bit move it just slightly The noise gets quieter or gets louder
Best way I can describe the sound is it sounds like a whining power steering pump
