Not to hi-jack the thread...

But I've got the Mopar Performance PCM in my 96 and I wondering if the SuperChips would improve that as well???

no, for a couple of reasons. i think superchips and hypertech only start at about '98 or 99. i think the mopar performance might be a little better than super/hyper.

dhvaughan is correct. If you own a 1994-1997, your best bet may be a Mopar Performance PCM.

1996 was technically the first year they started OBD II, but 1996-1997 were kind of weird hybrid years for it.

1998 was the first year that they switched to OBD II completely, IIRC. The SCT claims it will work with 1996-2001 (must have found a way to work with the weird systems), but Superchips and Hypertech say 1998-2001.

I think hypertech snuck in an extra year (1997 as I recall)

I have owned my '97 since new, and I used to be buddy's with a service manager at a dealer where I used to live. He told me of a program for my truck for more mpg. A leaner air/fuel mix if I remember right. Anyway, after I gave him the go ahead to do it, he put on the pcm the following sticker "p/n 05278334AA and authorized factory re-program dated April 11/1999."
What do you make of that? Plenum gasket has never been changed. Uses between 1/2 to 1 quart of oil in 3000 miles, and never pings.

The plenum might not have a serious blow out and the flash is keeping it from pinging regardless. On the other hand , it might have been flashed for something else and you don't have a plenum problem. But, there is only one way to know for sure. http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2000/09-05-00.htm

Was this "death flash" already available in April/99? Somewhere else I read it came out in 2000. Also on page 1, dhvaughan posted a link to a couple TSB and the part #'s of those reflashes do not match what is on my PCM sticker. Hmmm.

Like I said, it could have been flashed for another reason, but, I would still check the plenum.
