Question Hypertech Max Energy deal.

I went out to an autozone with a buddy of mine so he could talk about plugs/wires/etc. to his friend that worked there and I started talkin to the guy a little bit, told what truck I had, and we started talking about programmers. Well he tells me he has a hypertech max energy programmer for my truck if I want it, brand new, and he'll sell it to me for 160.
I used the search but only found minimal topics about it.
It's a pretty good deal considering its 160, even if it was used, but my question is, do they work?
On summit it says they will upgrade power, of course, but also change speedo meters for bigger tires, rev limiter, etc., etc.
I know programmers are good for modified engines, so as I go along with projects, my programmer should improve more and more right?

Some programmers are made for stock applictaions and slightly modded vehicles. Did the guy say why he was selling it or if he used it and if it worked for him?
I found an atricle on it though, might help a little.

Well he had gotten it for free pretty much.
I was thinking its a good deal considering if I don't like it I could sell it and not lose anything. But I just wanted some feedback from anyone who uses that programmer

its a nice little boost, corrects speedo, eliminates the death flash. when you use it though, and it installs its program to the pcm, its "vin locked" and unusable until its uninstalled. so just be sure he guarantees it to work.

you can tell if it will work or not by simply plugging it in to your truck. as soon as its boots up and reads your trucks pcm, it will offer to program it, or tell you its already used.

160 is a good price. you can sell it for 175-200 if you don't like it.

VERIFY THE YEAR OF THE unit, its generally for only one specific year.
