Default Lock up switch (Mystery SwitcH)

I got a question for you gasser guys...

Q: Over with the Cummins crowd they use lock up switch on the TQ Converter to gain a bit of performance. I this use or even possible on a Gasser that is listed in my signature?

I know my diesel really good but Gassers I'm really lame and need to learn about...

I think it is a lock out switch. Locks the overdrive out and stays in direct gear and the converter locks up at a lower speed that it does in o/d. Keeps the RPM up for better performance.

Well...

In the Cummins world a "mystery switch" is used after you hit 2nd gear. The the trans continues to shift upwards will the TQ conv. locked all the time. Once it reaches 4th gear it remains there with the TQ conv. locked. It will not shift down till you release the mystery switch..

This is a huge performance increase over allowing the PCM to lock/unlock the TQ conv. all the time and many in the diesel world have seen a bit better MPG's with it.

So my question still stands and wondering if it will perform the same on a gasser as a diesel...

I understand now, you're talking about an add on switch for the lock up (I think).
I can see where it could help mileage by doing away with the slippage.

i've never seen that discussed over here in the gas world. our $hitty little 318 and 360's can't even pull themselves, much less a heavy trailer.

i suppose that mystery switch would be inline with the transmission electrical connector. so if the plug was physically the same on the 46re as the 47/48, then it might work. i don't know. our only full time transmission expert, montec, has left. you might try pm'ing rabbler, he's in and out.
