blowing off some steam
OK i need to say this: i have been working on cars and heavy equipment for 10 years.
Whoever designed the Dodge Dakota 4.7 can kiss my as$ I mean come on 3 yes three timing chains why why. along with the freaking three chains there are 3 yes three tensioners, and 2 chain guides. THAT IS WAY TO MUCH MOVING PARTS TO DO SOMETHING SO BASIC IN ENGINE OPERATION. I wish the auto designers would STOP trying to reinvent the wheel...
A friend of mine is a mechanic at the local dodge stealership he has no other reason for it other then better fuel economy... what the heck. 2 cam shafts 2 dam cam shaft timing chains that need to be timed just so. All is better then 1 cam shaft 12 push rods and 12 rockers never thought about how much a push rod weighs let alone a massive rocker arm.
Although my friend did show me a very easy way to get around removing any of it when removing the heads. a handy tool he made out of a coat hanger with this you can depress the tensioners for the dam over head cam chains :-). so things are not as bad as they seem was really not that bad of a job.
Thanks just need to get that out to some one that may understand. Don't get me wrong i can fix anything along with the Dodge Dakota 4.7 with a cracked head.
i know this is not the Dakota section but dodge is dodge was my thought.
