Default Easy Spark Plug Question.

Let me first say that I work at a parts store. So I have pleanty of time to go through and see the differnces in parts on the differnt years of our trucks. So heres my problem. I have a slight ping on WOT. I'm running champion spark plugs right now. I've heard of switching to autolite 3923 because they are a heat reange cooler. When I look in the catlog a 96 takes 3924 so it makes sense to drop down to a 3923. When I look up my truck it calls for a 5224. The 5224 is longer then a 3924 or a 3923. Should I go ahead and use the 3923 or should I look for a 5223 wich I havn't found yet?

When was the last time you checked or replaced your plenum gasket? If your pinging at high RPM,, the plenum is one of the main causes that happens on these trucks.

I went over to the autolite website and read a couple of pages of stuffffff. Anywas I gues the differnce between a 3924 and a 5224 is the 5224 has a special power tip??? whatever that is I'm still trying to figure it out. The plug that I should run that is similar to the 5224 but colder should be a 5503.

I replaced it with a hughes about a two years ago. I checked the gasket about a week ago it's fine. I have the hypertech set to 93 so I'm fairly certain the timing is to advanced for the spark plugs I have installed. The pinging is very very slight.

That's cool. I just installed my hughes a few days ago.

How do you like the Hypertech, I thought about getting one?

I'm running a basic set of champion copper plugs with over 25k on them and no problem at WOT. Maybe try a different setting on your programmer.

I love the hypertech. There is definetly a differnce. I usually have it set to 87 octane but, I decided that I would try and get everything to work with 93 octane with out using 93 octane gas. That's why I was asking about the sparkplugs. If I go a heat range colder that should fix the problem.

If you get a hypertech I would recommend replacing the thermostat with a 160 or a 180. This will also help keep the pinging down.
