Default O2 Sensors

Do these things degrade over time? I was going to replace mine just for maintenance and because I have 102k on the truck, but there are 4 of them on this beast and at $65 each it's a little pricey considering all I've spent on it this month. According to the service records a couple have been changed over the years, but not in the last 60k miles. The truck is running great, but the mileage could be a little better. I just had the truck smogged and it passed with flying colors. So, any benefit to routinely replacing these or better to just wait until they fail?

ive HEARD that you can take them out and clean them with brake cleaner......but havent done it myself.....if i did replace any i would just do the fronts since they are the ones that really matter anyways

The two before the converters are the only two that have anything to do with mileage/power, dakotas_ram is correct.

The two after the converter are just for emissions purposes, tell you when the catalytic converters fail. I'd replace just the front two if you want to replace them. NGK makes decent sensors, but if you can't find them local, Bosch sensors are OK.

I wouldn't touch the rear two behind the converters unless a CEL tells you they failed.

If you're gonna redo your exhaust that would be a good time to do it. Sometimes they can be pretty hard to get out without destroying them so cleaning them isn't always the best idea.

Your V-10 is probably never going to get good gas mileage, but hey I'll trade you if you want.

Yeah, combined mileage hovers around 10, but I see posts of people claiming 12-13. I guess they don't have 4.10 gears like I do. Think I'm going to skip the O2 sensors for now. Probably nothing to be gained. I am going to fix that valve cover leak, though. Stuff like that drives me nuts.

13mpg, sounds like wishfull thinking for the V10 Best Ive seen was towing the Indy to 2nd closest track(135miles each way) and it was mostly highway (I use od). That was 12.2mpg with larger imperial gallon(Cdn).
Usually I get 10-11mpg with 3.55grs, mostly city driving.

Yeah, i've got the 5.9 V8 and am running around 12-13 MPG. So getting 10 in the 8.0 V10 is probably about right.

If anything you will probably only get like a 1/4 MPG gain or something. If you ask me it really isn't worth it. I can think of a lot of better things my 120 bucks could be spent on.

A new grille comes to mind.
