As for U-Haul paying for the bumper, its the fact that it is what caused my bumper to twist. I bought the $16 insurance for this exact reason. Otherwise, I would be screwed out of the money to repair it.

glad everyone is ok. damn a deer.
we hit one in KY on i-65 at night while running 65mph. it was a big buck about 8-10 points, looked like about 100 when it was plastered on the windshield. damn a deer.

Ga is in the process of vastly reducing the deer population for this reason. Insurance companies, the general public, government, DNR, etc. everyone is tired of hitting them. the hunting limit is about 10 or 12 or 15 or something.

Yea, they need to do something about the deer population here in Iowa. The fact that we didn't roll was a blessing to me. If i would have had a brush guard(in which i intend on getting one soon), I would have just hit the darn thing. But, as you all know, our trucks don't fair well up against a deer at these speeds. I'll be adding a nice diamond plate tool box and a new bumper along with hopefully a brush guard. Go fast goodies will come another time(well, exception of the exhaust ).

Glad your ok...

Sorry to see you truck damaged from a lossy deer...

But this is why I drive a bit slower in my neighborhood. Deer are very common and pop out at all time. So in Idaho there is no minimum speed laws (Thank Gawd). So there is times when it best to slow down and let others take the lead...

I can't believe you would tow a car with your step bumper.
I am amazed that uhaul would even rent you to tow dolly with only a step bumper.

Wow I haven't been to Wilton in eons...wasn't that where North Star Steel is/was? Or is it Durant? Spent a lot of time there back in the day...
I've lost 2 or 3 vehicles to Iowa deer. IMO they're rats with antlers.
I'm also suprised you were allowed to use a bumper hitch to tow a loaded dolly. The rating for your bumper is a "perfect world" rating, as you have found out. Your loved ones were very lucky...
A brush guard is for "brush"...It will simply do more damage to your front end when the deer bends it into your grill and hood. Something like a buckstop or Ranch hand bumper might take the punishment. Hitting an adult deer at speed is like hitting a fullsize car. But it's not nearly as bad as an elk or moose...

I don't know where you're getting your info from, but it's wrong.

I don't know what kind of car you were towing, but I'm guessing that it and the tow dolly put you right at or over that 3,500 pound limit.
