I have a buddy of mine who had a 96 dodge ram 1500 with the 318 in it. The truck never had a ny tranny problems but it had a 2500 tranny installed from the factory. I was wondering if there is any difference in the tranny in the 1500 and 2500 with the 360 and if it will be an easy swap to change mine out for the 2500 tranny. I am tired of building mine every 45,000 miles. Any help on this would be appreciated.

 

There are no differences between the 1500 and 2500 trannies if they both had the 5.9L V8 engine. The 5.2L in the 1500s, BTW, also used that same tranny. They are all the 46RE transmission.

The diesel and V10 used a 47RE, which is not a direct bolt up to our V8s. I'm not sure how it'd work, if its really feasible at all, but you would definitely need to do some adapting of some sort.
