Default Soft Grinding in front end

When I am moving around 10mph - 20 mph I can hear and soft grinding coming from the front end. My first thought was bearings, but the noise doesn't get worse or better when I am turning. It happens in reverse also. I have put the transmission in neutral, and the transfer case in neutral at the same time, and the noise is still there, so I don't think it has anything to do with the four wheel drive. My other thought was maybe gear oil? Would low gear oil cause a soft grinding noise?

What do you guys think?

the best and safest way to diagnose it is to put it up on 2 front jack stands and spin the tires by hand. if you think it 4wd related, then put the rears up on stands too and crank it up and shift t-case. have an assistant in the cab to ride the brakes so the tires don't run away to fast.

I know its not the U-Joints. I just replaced the passanger side U-Joint and the driver side is not bad at all. The seals are still in it.

That was going to be my next step, throwing the front end up on jack stands.

this may or may not have anything to do with your problem.
someone recently posted a problem with a grinding noise from the CAD. he removed the CAD and found shavings on the coupler. he cleaned up the cad and got it shifting fully back and forth and he thought it was probably fixed. i think it wasn't sliding fully out of the way in the uncoupled position.

I was thinking that too, but the noise still happens when I am in 4x4, so I was hoping to rule that out. But I might have to tear it apart and look at it just in case.

I replaced the U-Joint on the passenger side last week, and the pads on that side where good. I have not checked the driver side yet tho. I do also plan on changing the rotor's. So I am hoping that might be the problem, I don't think it is, but hey! Its worth a shot!
