Default Tire/rim question

Hi, all !! First post here and I appreciate all advice. First I would like to say this is my first truck purchase and it wasnt even for me I bought a 98 ram 1500 ext cab 2wd for my son whos turning 16 soon and of course the first thing he sees is the stocks 16's.

He should of seen my first car...( 82 tan ford escort ) I know, ford....ugh.

Any ways, it has the stock 16's and i went and got him some 15 inch black rims off craigslist that I sandblasted and powdercoated them glossy black, they are about 11 inches wide. So I bought him some procomp 33x12.5x 15 tires to fit.

Question is will it need to be lifted so it wont rub, and will a leveling kit do the trick?

thx again guys....

33x12.5 on a 2wd? i think the stock 4x4 lift is 3inches and 33s are the tallest you can fit, but it think the 12.50s will rub either the wheel well or the control arms, depending on the backspacing on the rims. why would you want to put tires that big on a 2wd?

Oh cummon daaaaad... whats the fun in that?!?!?

Anyway, expect ALOT of rubbing. That tire and wheel package wont clear on a stock 4x4.

I wonder if a 2.5" spring spacer and a 3" body lift will clear them? Won't cost as much as an all out suspension lift from Fabtech will. They do make a 6.5", but your talking a few thousand just to sacrifice larger tires... It'll take some deep research.

I had a 2001 that I had to lift 3 inches to get 33's to fit. I would start there. Also if your putting 33" mud tires on a truck and them telling him he can't go offroad your setting him up for failure. Goodluck keeping him on tha asphalt with that setup.

Agreed, I'm gonna go with a 3" front level kit and billstein shocks. And the procomps are all-terrain, not mudders.

I expect him to do some offroading, but the key discussion will be, if he gets stuck I will not be able to pull him out with my Accord.

I fit 33's with no problem on my stock 4x4. No rubbing at full lock. The rims I bought seem to have the perfect backspacing. I was all set to throw on a leveling kit, but had no issues. Of course, your truck is 2wd so all bets are off. A leveling kit should be perfect to get rid of any rub, and they're cheap.
