Default cat delete help

hey guys i'm new to this site. back in nov 08 i bought a 2001 dodge 2500 4x4 witht he 5.9L gas motor in it. the truck is nice i put a leveling kit on it and some 35 bfg's.

i had a flowmaster 40 series put on it but its not loud enough i know that if i took the cat of it would be louder. but the truck has some sort of sensor's before and after the cat. will it mess up how the truck runs if i take out the cat or? any help with me great

Welcome to the forum!

No, it won't necessarily mess up how the truck runs, but you will probably get a check engine light (CEL) coming on. The sensor after the cat does nothing but monitor how the cat is performing. If you mess with the sensor or remove the cat, usually it tells the computer the cat is malfunctioning, which sets off a CEL.

You can usually defeat that, though. Do a search here on the forum, several people have done several different things to do just that.

Thanks for the compliment. She's going to get bigger tires here within the next 6 months, if all goes to plan, along with better gearing. I'll be updating the sig within a day or two of that.

I elected to go with a High Flow converter made by Magnaflow. Staying legal, no CEL issues, and better performance.

Ya, those high flow cats flow just as well as no cat. You can use a spark plug spacer thingy to move the second sensor out of the exhaust stream, if you do get rid of the cat, but emissions testing if your state requires it...

On my car I had planned on getting a straight pipe, welding brackets on each end, welding brackets on a cat, so I could swap the cat in for emissions.

I have high flow cats with flowmaster 40's on a true dual exhaust and I can say it is fairly loud.

Ya sould be louder. Offset the cats by a few inches (so they're not parallel), otherwise you risk the chance that the tone will be so similar from each pipe that they cancel each other and sound blatty. Also, an X or H pipe is a good idea.
