Default best way to clean chrome?

I just realized my chrome diff cover is rusting. Let me say I'm PISSED. Damn this has only been on the truck about a year. It wasn't no damn cheap one either. Yes the truck has been sitting a while but still that **** should last longer then that.

I was thinking really fine steel wool and throw a coat of wax on it.

Any other ideas?

that sounds pretty good. make sure you use some sort of rust preventative. that way it will prolong it happening again.

Well, on my rear bumper thats all chrome, I usually buy a small bottle of Turtle Wax chrome polish. Like $2.00 at the store for it. I have a power ball, and just go ape**** on it to clean it up. When i'm done, I put a light coat of newfinish car wax on there.

+1 for the powerball. Works well on my chrome wheels too. Chrome polish may work up a slight black color to it if there is heavy corrosion, don't worry, that just means it's doing it's job.

Use TC-11 to clean the rust off, you can get it at most Ace Hardware stores. As far as cleaning chrome, I use windex and a soft cloth to clean my chrome, works great, and every 6 months I polish it with Flitz. Flitz protects the surface and keeps it in great shape, as well as making it easy to wipe off dirt and grim. It's $15 a tube online, but it is well worth it.

well I tried the power ball. I think its beyond cleaning. The rust is pretty bad. Last time i looked at it, it was fine. This really has me pissed. I won't buy trans dapt **** again thats for sure.

Does anybody know of a polished Stainless steel one for our trucks? I know its gonna cost a lot but after seeing this I'll spend it to make it last

Mine did the same ****. The first time I used naval jelly to take the rust off, and waxed it. but over the winter it rusted up again. I just painted mine red the second time. ****ing road salt.

I think most of the really tough ones are powdercoated. Aluminum won't rust either, but it's not the strongest if you go offroad.

Find you a way to soak that cover in CLR for a few days. It will melt the rust right off of it. (Tranny fluid will do it too, but would take a few weeks instead of days)
