Valvoline SynPower or Pennzoil Synthetic. Save yourself a few bucks and skip the Purpl oil (that was hard for me to say! ).

There probably both on par with eachother, never heard anything bad about either. I've never used royal purple personally, but I use amsoil for everything and it's awesome. My vote goes to amsoil.

Since everyone is stumping for Amsoil, I will weight in on the Royal Purple side. I am on my 5th 2nd Gen Ram, and have used nothing but Royal Purple for the oil, trans and diffs. Besides enjoying a longer oil change interval (5-7k interval). I have noticed a lower oil temp anf trans temp using them. Both products are equally as good. Price nowadays is a big factor, money is tight, but we want the best for our trucks. I come from a racing backround, and have used Royal Purple products since they were introduced. Bottom line, I am a creature of habit and if it ain't broke don't fix it. That's why I use Royal Purple.

ive never used amsoil but a guy i did some work for back in the day was a rep for amsoil and used it in his daily driver miata he used in scca racing. he said he only changed the oil every 15,000 miles and the filter every two changes. always been skeptical. but itd be nice to get the equivalent of 5 synthetic changes outta it. although i like the "bonding time" i get with my truck...

MonteC, Def digging the 3rd gen camaro 5th gen engine tranny swap. i dunno if spoon is around anymore (not the honda tuner) but they have some amazing suspension goodies and subframe connectors. i remember fondly the days of my IROC-Z white with red interior 305 TBI (boo) 5 speed... only standard IROC-Z ive ever seen tbh.

sorry, threadjack...

If anything, you should be changing the filter once before the oil change and then again at oil change time, not the other way around. Thats my opinion, I've always been taught that even though the oil may last longer (synthetic or extended life), the filter does not.

I've heard nothing but good about Amsoil, but I don't believe their claims for their filters lasting two oil changes and thousands upon thousands of miles. Like I said, just my two cents.

I think Royal Purple is OK, but I honestly couldn't tell a difference between it and Mobil 1. I'm switching back to Mobil 1 next change.
