v10 question
Here's some pics of my V10.

4 of the 10 cylinders are underneath the cowl because the block is so long.
This is the radiator (behind the A/C condenser and tranny cooler).

It is 36" wide by 20" tall.
If you think you can shoehorn this monster into your '85, I'd love to see it.
Sounds like you already made up your mind, so I have to wonder why you bothered asking the question.
I still think it would be easier, cheaper and faster to build a nice 360 up for your truck.

Our trucks are a cab forward design which is why the motor is tucked so far under the cab of the truck. My ahem..ford v-10 was the same way. I would guess that our front ends are much shorter than the old school front ends. I am not saying that it will or won't fit but if he really want's to do it and can afford it then more power to him. You are right by the way on cost. I looked up the wiring harness for stand alone control and it is about 500 by itself.
Ill have to measure my engine bay tom and damn Miami_Son either that pic was taken when you first bought the truck or your like me and love to scrub every little part on your engine to keep it clean I would not be afraid to eat of that engine.
the ram yr speaking of was hit in the front end and hit the fan into the water pump
makesure that the pump DIDNT CRACK THE block
the four wheel drive set up my be some what a problem , the rears are read by the ECU
for spin too
get a schematic of the v-10 and drive train ,thhat should help

You are spot on there. There will definitely be some creative work involved in getting the speedo to work and the engine to run correctly. I completely forgot about that issue all together. Doable but not cheap on that one.
My uncle said to see how the frame is and if he doesnt want too much just put my cab on it. The cab thats on it could go to scrap since the only thing that is good is the bed. Decisions decisions. I like that idea since making cab mounts is easier than motor/tranny mounts.
Hey don't let some of these haters on here tell you it can't be done.....anything with enough will power can be done! I'm not very familiar with the 85' engine bay but if has anything near the space as the newer rams have (which I would imagine it does on older trucks) than you will have more than enough space to tuck a V10 in there, especially if that v10 is near the size that mine has..Dodge shoved a v10 in my ram and there is a huge amount of engine bay space left, totally opposite of my diesel which was crammed in an F250 body (and damnit I hope some of these pr*cks on here don't give me hell for saying F250 in here)
anyways like "speed" said since you have a donor truck much of the parts are at your disposal you will need new wiring mount's ect... I don't see the frame being C style as giving you any problems, the weight may play a factor but hell you can leaf springs for not too bad or add-a-leaf(s) for quite cheap...
It can be done and it may not be easy (then again it may not be overly hard either) be prepared to be creative as you may need to make or adapt parts as some things will come as a surprise...I think it would be a cool project, keep us posted!!!

AMEN TO THAT!!!! That's what I am saying. You can think outside the box if you really want to do something and can afford to do it why not. It's you money, your vehicle, and your project. Like I said before if you need any help I'm here to lend as much as I can. Your uncle has the best idea by far. If the frame is good or only needs a minor pull to straighten it then I would put your body on that chassis and cut off and relocate your body mounts as necessary. That is by far the cheapest and easiest way to do your project in no time flat. Good luck bud and keep us up to date.
