Mr. gasket 1408 or 1480 (forget what the model number was). I ran it, didn't need a spacer, or... a breather (came with a neck that you attach the pcv valve hose too). All was well, then I met another dodge member down the line who admired it a lot and had wanted one so I hooked him up with it. Just need to buy a 2.5" filter for it because it comes with a small one.
i got the mr. gasket 1480 (it doesn't need a spacer) and it says its 14" but the filter is only 13 3/4" so my 14x3 k&n won't fit. so i'm gonna make one out of stainless to fit my 50$ filter. i did measure and found out that a 13.5" filter will fit and it'd only have a small gap around the filter but i already bought a 14x3 filter so i'm gonna work with what i have.
The filter should fit anyway, Mine does and I have a Spectre and a Mr gasket chrome housings that measure 13 3/4 and the K&N fits in both. It's tight but just makes for a better seal.

I ran 14x2.5 after I got rid of the fastman (seemed like perfect size for stock tb height) (WIX)
I ran a replacement 14x2.5 that I picked up after the other needed changing (STP)
I have run three 14" elements that I have picked up from three different parts stores. I haven't had a problem running a 14" at all. I do know what you are saying about it not being completely big enough, but throw that 14" filter in and center it. Start cranking down that wing nut then start pushing around the filter inward just the slightest bit. Continue cranking down and you are good to go. I have ran it like that for over two years (until I passed mine on down the line) with no issues at all with 14" filters. You might want to give it another shot.
