Confused about gas mileage (5.2vs5.9/4wdvs2wd etc)

One reason why you see less mpg with the 5.2 compared to the 5.9 is that owners of the smaller engine often have to mash the accelerator more to accomplish the same thing, like getting on the freeway. The bigger engine can get up to hwy speed with less effort.
my dad's 5.9 single cab 2wd long bed gets about 14.5 city almost 17 on the highway. his 5.2 ext cab short bed 4wd gets 10 maybe 11 almost always. my grandpas 5.2 single cab long bed gets 16 city and 20 on the highway how i dont know but it does. my 5.9 ext cab short bed 4wd gets anywhere from 13 to 14 city and like 16 maybe 16.5 highway.

The last two tanks I checked my milage on I got 17 and 17.5 MPG. That is with the 318, 5 spd, 4x4 with 265s and 3.55 gears running at 80 mph which is about 2100 RPM. Also, I generally have my foot to the floor while accelerating.
