Currently using 10w30 Royal Purple.

Switching back to Mobil 1 10w30 next oil change (approx. 2000-3000 miles from now).

I used to switch to 5w30 for the winter, but I have an engine block heater now, so now I don't.

I would do a High Mileage oil like Max Life or GTX and a good oil filter (No Fraps!!! Purolators, WIX, or Mobil 1) for about 3 oil changes then do the Synthetic. I was in the same position as you are when my dad and I got Purpl. We did not know what oil to use, so we just used the way above. Hope this helps!

going to a 15w wont make a difference at high temps, only when the oil is cold, its the 40 part thats important for you in those temps . For example with 15w40, the 15 indicates the viscosity of the oil at a cold temperature, while the 40 indicates the viscosity at operating temperature.
.............and the w means winter, not weight.
