Sheriff,

Did you find the culprit for the leaky backseat? I've got a 98 Club Cab that's doing the same thing. Driver side. Same place that you pointed to I believe. It hits the backseat and then onto whatever is sitting on the seat. It'll make it under the seat too!

Looking forward to your response!

i'm thinking its the 3rd brake light. seeing this again reminds me that i need to seal it up. the other day i hopped in the bed and looked at the brake light and saw that there is a gap between the plastic and the body. i'm just going to stick it to the body with black rtv.

Just go to your parts store and get the gasket. It shouldn't be more than $5.00.

didn't think of getting a gasket. are there rubber gaskets available or just the foam stuff? mine bows out in the middle about 1/16", hopefully the gasket will be thick enough to make up for the gap.

I would not get a new gasket. When I was looking for my leak my dad got me some stuff that was like plumers dope but it is not the same this never gets hard so it will not crack and leak. When I get home on sat I will get the name for you. If the light is not cracked It will never leak again. plus you would not have to deal with that messy rtv stuff

It should be just like a rubber seat that the light housing sits on top of. Kinda like clearance lamps.

i'll try out the seal and hit it with a water hose again to see if it leaks. i need to go to the parts store anyway. i'll post again with whether or not it fixed it.

Just got done fixing mine with Clear RTV. Make sure the bead is nice and thick on the top Middle and Bottom Middle. Got a nice squish out and I'll trim up the edges later after it dries. I hate smeared RTV. Should be the end of the leaky backseat issue. I had a HUGE gap (could drop a quarter inside of it) on the middle top of the light.

Thanks for the info on yours! Let me know if that gasket stuff works for you and what exactly it is (the name) and where you got it.

i went ahead and used rtv. my light is bowed out pretty bad and a new gasket wouldn't seal if i were to try because of that. i applied it all the way around with an extra tapered bead in the top middle and i believe it has sealed it up. it has rained a few times since i fixed the light and i haven't seen any water yet but i still need to do a water hose test. before i put rtv on it i went out there after it had rained and i saw the existing seal barely touching the light and not touching the body so i knew where my leak was coming from. also this morning i looked at my dads 98 ram and its light is sitting flush all the way across, thats what being garage kept for the first 8 years of its life will do.

oh yeah, both brake light bulbs were blown too so i know for sure that water was getting in there.
