Default engine mod

i've got a 2000 dodge ram 1500 5.9. i have a spare motor that i would like to get built up for it. i'm not a professional mechanic but i know my way around a little. i also have my cousin who regular builds race motors so i have sources for help. i'm not really sure what the best way to go about this is. but i was thinking just stroking it and maybe boring. i'm not sure, maybe something with the heads and a cam. i don't know what i would have to do with fuel, someone told me heavier injectors but i have no idea. any help would be appreciated

Damn straight! Stroke that b*tch! A 408 would be the best upgrade you could do for that engine!

There are several guys on here building 408's. A simple search here would turn up hundreds of threads on the subject. I am not trying to be a jerk but those guys have been indepth with their builds with pics. I have not done the 408 myself. as far as head and cam and intake mods, no you don't have to but I would suggest that you do a hughes intake and 1.7 harland sharp rockers. the rockers will eliminate the need for a larger cam because the will imitate a larger cam without all the extra cost of a new cam and lifters. the Hughes intake eliminates the plenum problem we all have had or will have in the future with the stock setup. You should go with an SCT tuner and step up your injectors atleast one stage to provide enough fuel to your new found horse power. With the SCT you can find someone like Indy who drag races his truck. I am sure he has a Lamda table for fuel curves you could get and modify to your setup. www.rm-indy.com is the site for you to check out for sure.
