Default 7 pin trailer connector wiring

Need help. My wife unhooked the horse trailer and drove off with the wiring connector still attached and damaged the wiring connector on the truck so the turn signals don't work on the trailer. I bought a new connector for the truck but it don't have the right harness to connect to the stock harness so I am going to have to cut the harness off and direct wire it to the new piece. The only problem is that I don't know which wire connects to each of the conncections. Any one have any ideas? Thanks

Take it to a U-Haul store, Trailer wires never work if you do them your self, EVER.

That is total bull$hit as I did all the electrical work on my 7 pin harrness and it works great!! It is easy if you have patience. I am not scared to do wiring now.

pros ? what kind of bull$hit do it yourself answer was that...

use a multimeter, voltage tester, or test light and probe each of the pins on the truck side and write down which is which. if any don't work, you can connect a 12v battery charger or battery and apply voltage to the trailer side to see what it powers. note what's what.

then disconnect battery cables on the truck and cut the old plug out of the truck and splice in the new one.

Thanks guys. I downloaded a few instruction sheets from several different RV websites. Gonna give a try my self, can't be that difficult to figure out. If something don't work right try something different.

OK lets try this since your truck happens to be the model year that the posted service manual that is available is on here.

Ground=Black
Red/Orange=12 volts +
Light Blue=Electric Brake
Violet/Black=Reverse
Black/Yellow=Parking Lamps
Dark Green/Red=Left Turn/Stop
Brown/Red=Right Turn/stop

I don't know the exact pinouts per the connector itself but these are the factory pinout colors so if you still have the plugs that connect to the factory harness you can match up the wires to your aftermarket 7 pin connector. Can you imagine it only took me a few more seconds to post this as opposed to saying leave it to a pro.
