Default transmission problem,please help

i have a 96 5.2 5 speed, 4x2. we changed the transmission with one of those remanufactured jobs, and we have had nothing but problems since. we tried to have our factory tranny rebuilt, but no one around here would touch it, said something about a shaft they couldnt get lined back up without some special tool. but anyways, after 3 transmission,we finally got one that shifts decent and works fine. however its building pressure in the case, and the fluid is coming out around the shifter mounting spot. what could be causing this? and what kind of fluid should i be using anyway, because im not to sure what they put in it.i dont have a manual with this truck, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Building pressure? Are you sure that the shifter top is sealed properly? You may need to put some rtv on it.

You should be running "synchromesh". Its a highly friction modified fluid. Thats what GM calls it, its the same stuff for chrysler. GM and Chrysler both used the same manual transmissions. Amsoil sells it, actually cheaper than the dealer does.

i thought they had tried some type of rtv on it once, and it didnt work, i could be wrong, however i just took it apart last night and schlacked "spelling" it.can i buy that synchromesh at autozone or advanced? and if so,how much would i need for this trans? should i put any additives like lucas in there? i havent tested it since i schlacked it, so hopefully this works, because i really dont have any idea what to do after that. thanks alot for your time

As I recall its only around 2 quarts, I have mine filled to nearly 3 quarts though. Don't use any additives. And RTV the shift tower to the tranny and it should stop leaking, it's not from pressure it's just from the fluid getting sloshed and flung around.

No you cant buy the synchromesh at the parts stores. MAYBE napa. If you dont go with amsoil your going to have to go to the dealer.

It's not exactly the same stuff that Chrysler recommends but it's what I, and many other NV3500 owners use. That specific fluid from a dealer is $$$.

From the NV3500 Wiki.
