Aftermarket Audio System
I'm planing on installing an aftermarket audio system in my 01 ram. I already have a set of nice Alpine 6-1/2" speakers, an Alpine headunit, a set of MTX 6x9s, a 12" MTX sub, a 600 watt 4ch Pyrimid amp, and all nessisary wires including a 4 guage power wire. All this was taken out of my Firebird befor I sold it.
I already know that my 12" MTX will not fit under my seat. I was woundering what the biggest sub(s) I could fit under my seat would be. I have a pair of boxes for 10s that go under the seat that I took out of my unkels 97 V10 befor we sold it but I'm not even shure if I could make them fit. I noticed that my seats only sit 10" off the ground. I'd like to still have leg room when I'm done installing everything.
Also, I am already aware of the 6x9 clearence issue but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
Any tips from you guys out there would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Well for starters, those alpine 6 1/2" aren't going to fit in the back wall mounts if that's you have planned. The size for those are 5 1/2". I guess you could make a modification the the mounts and do it that way, but I think you would be better off trying to exchange them.
You are going to need to either build custom boxes, or buy a pre-made box to fit under your seats. You might look into Hutch's thread.
Seeing that you have a regular cab truck, you can just remove the behind the seat storage system and place your subs there. That will give you space in between the two boxes to place your amp.

My truck is a quad cab. that pic is just a download for Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. I guess I should have noted that but I thought I listed my truck as a quad cab in my sig description, I'm gona go fix that.
6.5's should fit in the quad doors fine, I put mine in without any real mods outside of drilling new holes. Downfire box is what I did, as Laramie noted, which works awesome if you don't mind a fairly uncomfortable middle seat. Really kicks off a single 10. What is the box requirement for your 12?
The box my 12 is in is like 16" deep, 13-1/2" wide and 13-1/2" tall. Not very big for a 12 but I think just one really good 10 would do just fine. And I like the idea of putting the sub in the middle, maby just have it faceing up and infront of the seat. I think I'll draw my idea up on MS Paint real quick. I am in no way new to audio just so you know.
Just was asking because the box I built was right around .73 cu. feet, which is what the 10 needed for a sealed box. I have seen some 12's that didn't need much more then that. I did mine 'stealth' though so I was limited for size, but I love that you don't know it's there.
If you aren't worried about hiding it, skies the limit on where to put it.

OK, I drew one up but I forgot I was zoomed in so its kinda hard to see, but it gets the point across. I'd rather it be stealth but oh well if its not. I love in the middle of no where and we have security cameras so I'm not too worried about people stealing it. I figure if I need the room I'll just toss it in the bed.

I'm missing your idea on the design, where is that going to go?
My box build is on page 3 of the thread below.

Honestly though, if you aren't worried about theft or stealth too much, it's a lot of screwing around. I did it because I live in the city, wanted it hidden, and can't really throw it in the back when I need the space.
EDIT: And fyi, i'm not a hard core audio guy, my build was my first install and isn't perfect by any means.

aahhh, ok, I was thinking you were talking about the front seat, so I was confused. Sounds like that would work well for you and you wouldn't give up the middle seat. No one has sat on my middle front seat yet, and if they do, man they are going to be sore the next day...lol..but I don't care. Most of the time my back seat is flipped up with tool pouches or other stuff back there, so I didn't want to mess around back there. I did get the idea for the downfire box from members on here, and have to admit, love it. Not sure I'll ever have a different style of box.
