New round aircleaner!
Yeah. Advance Auto Parts sells packs of assorted plastic spacers for just a few bucks. I bought it and tried out a few till I got the fit right. You only need a spacer if you use a drop filter like I did. If you use a flat bottomed air cleaner, you shouldn't need a spacer, but then again, you will have to get a slimmer filter to fit under the cowl.
Looks cool, actually i want to do this. Like the look a hell of alot better than the air box and tube.. But, wouldnt it kill horsepower? Wouldn't there be more heat sucked up into the intake? If there are no disadvantages id love to do it!
I would like to see a dyno. before and after.

The round filter flows more air by virtue of its open design compared to the restrictive stock housing. more air=better throttle response and performance. As for sound, the stock airbox muffles the intake sound, that whoosh of air being sucked into the TB. The open air cleaner lets you hear it...and enjoy it.
miami you make it sound so good, sorry to jack your thread but i have to get this straight i like to look of this round air cleaner way better than a CAI but does it CAI really do much for the truck rather than just a old school cool looking round air cleaner
i did it b/c i needed to change my air cleaner anyway, and i found a crack in my airbox, on the filtered side
plus i love the musclecar sound when i punch the throttle
I also had to get a new gasket for it, b/c mine fell apart when i pulled the old airbox off

dang this kind of changes my plans i thought for sure i was gonna get CAI
but now that i have seen what the round filter looks like im leaning to it more so the round filter gives it more of a muscle truck tone?

Understand that, like may things on these trucks, the stock airbox is a design of compromise. If it weren't for the EPA regulations on evaporative emissions we would still be running open air cleaners like cars from the
'60s did from the factory. The engineers do their best to make them work as efficiently as possible, but they are handcuffed by the regulations and can only achieve so much. That's why the aftermarket exists and why so many of these products are available, but forced to have the dreaded "For off-road use only" tag applied to them.
Unfortunately, these open air filter elements are totally illegal in Cali and if not for the fact that I have to pass smog inspection every 2 years, I would have considered one. Instead, I put on a K&N CAI that meets CARB approval and passes the visual inspection.
