yes, exactly. unless you upgrade your intake manifold to say, the air gap, then every single "CAI" out there, is completely pointless except for increased airflow. which, the 14x3 reigns supreme over "CAI's". a 14x3 will run you cheaper than a "CAI" anyway, usually around 30-50 bucks. but requires a very small amount of fabrication for the threaded rod. not a biggy at all.

Yeah dude. Look at the manifold. It's not like the aircleaner sucks air right into the combustion chamber, or the idea of a CIA might actually hold up a bit. But in our truck the aircleaner sucks the air into the plenum, where it's a few hundred degrees anyway, until it is sucked into the combustion chamber. Hence pulling the mildley cooler air from near your fender, or sucking the hotter air from the top of the motor (which is no where near as hot as it's going to get inside the manifold anyway) makes absolutley zero difference. The only benefit you are seeing is increased airflow.

And since the 14x3 outdoes the Cone filtered "CAI"s in airflow... ding ding ding. We have a winner.

do i get my gold star? lol

you'll have to go to a hardware store to get it...its 1/4-20 thread rod i do believe. correct me if i'm wrong. and you have to bend it in a s-shape. theres a tut on here somewhere, use the search function

Go to home depot and get yourself a 1/4"-20 threaded rod. It'll set you back a dollar. Then you take your little hannies and bend that sucker to 3/4" offset. Then saw it down to about 4" long. You could saw it down first but then you're gonna need a pair of vice grips to bend it, so it is easier to bend it first. If you get lost there is a page in the DIY section about how to bend the rod. If you get really lost I'll find it for you.

when we say 14x3...we're talking about the filter element. thats the measurement of the filter element, 14" diameter x 3" tall. so any 14x3 filter will work. there aren't any specific filters. k&n makes a expensive high flow 14x3 but if you're on a budget, there are other ones that will work just fine.

Our trucks have a throttle body with the same sized round base as 4BBL carbs do, 5 1/8". So any air cleaner with a 5 1/8" base will work (assuming it fits under the hood).
