i have a 1997 Ram 1500 4x4 5.9 360. I got the one that was cursed with the internal regulator in the PCM ****tin the bed. sluggish, almost like it wouldnt shift i had to put it in 4 low to get in my garage. make a long story short, changed the alternator, still no luck. put a diff computer from a 99? 360 truck in it, aside from all the christmas lights on the dash coming on, the truck ran phenominal BUT wouldnt shift into OD. figured it was the newer computer. put original computer back in, but did the external regulator trick and now trucks charging good, but seems like it wont shift first, it starts in second, and wont hit OD. I got the codes above as follows: P0743, P1765, P0753. i understand basically what they mean, but does this mean my PCM compeltey **** the bed? help please i dont wanna dump a buncha money into trans solenoids if i dont have to

Sounds like tranny issue, not PCM. Sorry....

P0743 Torque Conv Clutch Solenoid/Trans Relay Circs
P1765 Trans 12 Volt Supply Relay CTRL Circ
P0753 Trans 3-4 Shift Sol/Trans Relay Circs

All the solenoids draw power from the trans supply relay. Make sure you are getting power to the trans from that circuit, if you aren't none of the other solenoids will work, including governor pressure.

So the trans supply relay circuit that's the one in the power distribution box besides the battery? And just wondering, where are all those solenoids located? I know some cars you drop trans pan and there right their but I never tore into a dodge. Sorry for all the questions, I'm unfamiliar with the newer stuff just trying to learn all I can

Yes, the relay is in the PDC by the battery. And all the sensors are in the tranny above the pan. You might also want to check the main tranny wire harness, where it plugs into the tranny.

Switched trans relay didn't make a difference. Here's why I think its the PCM causing the issues with trans....I put the pcm out of the newer 360 truck I had back in, and trans takes off and shifts like it should, just doesn't go in OD because its a newer pcm I'm guessing and I know there different. But I put the scan tool on and only one code came up this time and it was a p1495 leak detection pump selenoid circuit. What does that mean ? I'm thinkin its gonna come down to me just buying a pcm

That's an evap emissions code, has nothing to do with the trans. Probably the vacuum lines to your vapor recovery canister have cracked.

With the 'right year' pcm, put your finger on the trans relay, and have someone else turn the key on, you should feel the relay click.
